Electrical Defect
What Is An Electrical Defect Notice?
An Electrical Defect Notice is issued by your electricity distributor when your existing connection to the network doesn’t meet safety standards.
What to do if you get an electrical defect notice?
A Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) is required to repair the fault.
If you have no power: you will need to immediately contact an REC to arrange repairs to the installation and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety upon completion. This will ensure prompt reconnection by the electricity distributor.
If you have power: you will have a specified timeframe for the nominated defect rectification works to take place, this is usually 7-21days. Contact an REC early to ensure that the necessary works will be completed in the timeframe. Otherwise, the electrical supply to your property will be cut off until repairs are complete.
